Event Comment: About this time Mr Theo: Cibber Mr Maddocks the wire Dancer, & several other Theatrical performers, with & number of other Passangers embark'd on board the Dublin, Captain White, in order to go to Ireland but the Ship was lost & every Soul perish'd (Cross). As Mr Sparks & others complain'd of Mr Wilkinson for taking them off, it [Diversions of ye Morning] was intended to be omitted this Night, But the Audience call'd so violently for it, that we were oblig'd to let him do it--he took off Foote & Sheridan, & wou'd have left out Sparks but ye Audience wou'd not be satisfied without it--when they first call'd Mr Foote went forward & said as some of the performers had complain'd it was to be omitted; as for being taken off himself he had no Objection to it, as he was always glad to contribute to their Entertainm[en]t &c. Event Comment: Receipts: #115 3s. [The Weekly Magazine; or, Gentleman and Lady's Polite Companion (1760), pp. 61-63, deplores the lack of new plays and lack of competition for the Patent houses. "Our theatres seem now to aim at glorious opposition: Harlequin is set against Harlequin, one dancing master opposes another; the scene shifters, the singers, and even the drummers figure at each house by turns, and it is to be hoped soon that the mere actor will become useless....The Fair has scarce even pantomime probability...for instance Harlequin should never exercise his magical power without reason, and should never make escapes without being pursued, but here he conjures, leaps, runs and waggles without any apparent design; and the whole seems destitute of plot, a if contrived by a dancing master. Harlequin's Invasion at the other House is still rather more absurd." The author expected a speaking Harlequin, Pantaloon, Pierot, Mezzetin, &c. but found the customary figures banished for the substitution of a "stupid Taylor and his more stupid wife." Regrets the sinking of stage performance to such absurdity.

Performance Comment: advertised as "with the tragic adventures of the Knight of the Woeful Countenance, and the Comic humours of his merry Squire Sancho Panca. An Entertainment intirely adapted to the taste of all Ladies, Gentlemen, Bucks, Bloods, and Choice Spirits; but more expecially those who are fond of Liberpy and Roast Beef. In which will be introduced a group of odd, but diverting characters, being the work of a great master in the Creative Faculty. To render the dish more agreeable to every palate, it will be garnished with singing and dancing-; particularly a song on the late Victories obtained by our Fleets and Armies, and a Welcome to Southwark Fair. With a Hornpipe-a British Genius; whose valour was conducive to the reduction of Quebec. The whole to conclude with the View of a magnificent Monument erected to the Memory of the late General Wolfe. And a Monody- to be spoken on the death of that brave and much lamented Hero.".
