Event Comment: [The following day Garrick received a letter from L. A. Ein Schweitzer: "As you spare nothing in adding new characters etc. to the Masquerade...I hope you will introduce in it the dress as described hereunder, being the first, perhaps, that ever appeared in this country. It is that of a country maid of the Cantoon of Bern; and as the Allemande is really a Swiss Dance, nobody could with more propriety wear it than Sga Vidini who would greatly shine in it." The hairdo is described in detail--ringlets, with cap and small feather, and no powder. The jacket, skirt, and socks (red jacket with black trim, black skirt, red stockings) are described in detail. Leo, F. Leo [libretto in L. C.]. Two of the principal Performers being greatly indispos'd, the Dancers are oblig'd to be deferr'd. Thomas Gray to John Chute, 24 May: Our fifth Opera was the Olimpiade, in which they retain'd most of Pergolesi's Songs & yet 'tis gone already, as if it had been a poor thing of Galuppi's. Two nights did I enjoy it all alone, snugg in a Nook in the Gallery, but found no one in those regions had ever heard of Pergolesi, nay, I heard several affirm it was a Composition of Pescetti's.-Gray, Correspondence, I, 203

The Subscribers are respectfully entreated to observe that they are to produce their Tickets at the doors. The Doors to be opened at 6:30. To begin at 7:30 [same throughout season, except on 15 May). The Ladies at the Head of the Boxes arc respectfully reminded that such Boxes as shall not be paid for at the opening of the Theatre become then vacant, and may be claimed by any of the old Subscribers. No one to be admitted behind the scenes. For the greater Safety of the Company in coming and going out of the Theatre Mr Townsend has taken charge of the Peace Officers, and will himself attend every night of Performance.
