[This performance was originally advertised to take place at the Pantheon, Oxford-street, but "The routed Host of Harmonists, driven from their new works in Oxford-road, hastily encamped last night [at Covent Garden]. Their performance...went off as might be expected from a scanty band, thus collected, without any previous rehearsal" (Morning Herald, 21 Feb.). The Pantheon had been destroyed by fire in January 1792. Work on its reconstruction had only recently been begun, and Was still not completed. It was reopened with a masquerade on 9 April 1795, the "usual licenses being now fully renewed and established" (Morning Herald, 9 Apr.).

Event Comment: Benefit for Mme Rose. The Opera [will be performed] instead of Antigona, already announced in the papers of yesterday, it having been found impossible to get ready the machinery of the new Ballet after the performance of the Serious Opera. Mme Rose having been presented with an Engraving Ticket for her night, she proposes to give one with each Ticket, separately from the Ticket which will be admitted at the door. The Nobility and Gentry are respectfully entreated not be on that part of the stage where the mountain stands, as the machinery of the Ballet will be attended with danger. Tickets to be had of Mme Rose, No. 9, Hay-market. "The most bewitching dance we ever witnessed, for novelty of idea, charm of fancy, and delicacy of passion was performed last night. Not content with the common praise, the audience called forward the author, Didelot, and paid to him the tribute due to original and inventive talents. The ballet was entitled L'Amour Vange. The invention, which was perfectly new, was that of bands of Cupidsv floating in air-suspended seemingly on their own wings, without the intervention of any grosser medium" (Morning Chronicle, 3 June)

Event Comment: 2nd ballet: Revived, and brought forward under the direction of Barre. The Music, with additional Airs, by Mazzinghi. The Scenery entirely new, painted by Greenwood and assistants under his Direction. The Dresses new by Sestini. "This dance is the composition of the celebrated Noverre, and it is totally different from the ballet under the same title, brought out at Paris under Gardel...The torches and swords of fire in hands of Furies produced so tremendous an effect that a part of audience seemed petrified at agonies of Psyche. Much of this effect was produced by the strong reflection from glass pannels of boxes" (Morning Chronicle, 19 Dec.). The frequenters of Opera are respectfully acquainted that Posts with Chains are placed all along front of Theatre to prevent Carriages from driving upon the foot way, so that Chairs can in future come by great door in the Haymarket with perfect safety

Middleton, after performing the first scene of Nerestan, retired abruptly into the wardrobe, pulled off his coat, and telling the dresser he should be back in ten minutes, left the theatre; he did not return, however, according to his appointment, and Davenport read the remainder of the character: a fit of insanity is supposed to have seized him" (Monthly Mirror, Jan. 1797, p. 55).
