Books of the Songs to be had at the Theatre. [One of the songs, beginning "Adzooks, old Crusty," sung by Edwin, is set to the tune of Yankee Doodle, and in the musical score (Harrison, 1784) it is so entitled. This is believed to be the first time this song, as it is now sung, appeared in print.]

Event Comment: [In 2nd piece the playbill assigns Scruple to Caulfield, but "Previous to the second piece, an apology was made by Barrymore for young Palmer, who, in consequence of Caulfield's indisposition, read the part of Scruple" (Thespian Magazine, Nov. 1793, p. 311).

Event Comment: [Litchfield, who is identified in European Magazine, Jan. 1794, p. 50, had made his 1st appearance on the stage at Richmond, 7 Sept. 1793, billed as "A Young Gentleman" (Charles Mathews, Memoirs, 1838-39, I, 70, and Thespian Magazine, Supp. 1793, p. 401). Not. Dram. states that "A person under the name of Litchfield but as I am informed in reality a Mr Holland Nephew to Mr Holland formerly of Drury Lane appeared 1st time at the HM in Richard III." But Holland was at this time acting at Bath, and did not appear in London until 31 Oct. 1796, at Drury Lane.]

The Young Gentleman who was to have performed the part of Lysimachus in the tragedy of Alexander...for the benefit of Mr Mattocks, being much indisposed, cannot appear in that character as was intended, it will therefore be performed as usual by Mr Hull (Winston, MS 10, newsclipping inserted).
