Event Comment: Afterpiece: Not acted these 13 years [acted 5 May 1770]. With Alterations and 3 entire new Scenes [by Richard Brinsley Sheridan; and new music by Thomas Linley Sen.]. To conclude with a Representation of the Storming of Fort Omoa in the Bay of Hondurasv [when it was captured by the British from the Spaniards on 26 Oct. 1779. This scene was included in all subsequent performances]. The View and Machinery designed by DeLoutherbourg and executed under his direction. With New Dresses and Decorations. "The scenemen blundered egregiously all through the entertainment. During the siege of the fort so much gunpowder was fired off that the stage was so filled with smoke that the officers, men, were scarcely discernible from the boxes" (London Chronicle, 4 Jan.). The Governors beg leave to inform the Nobility and Gentry to whom this Charity is so much oblig'd, that from June 1756 to June 1757 they have necessarily laid out for decay'd musicians and their families, widows of decay'd musicians, and in maintaining and educating orphans who are left in distress, and in putting them Apprentice, and for Physic, Burials, and other incidental charges #532 13s. 7d. The Books are open and may be inspected by subscribers the first Sunday in every month at a meeting of the Governors, at the Turk's Head in Greek Street, Soho. All expenses attending the meetings of the Governors, Court of Affidavits Committee for managing of this Concert, are defrayed by themselves

Event Comment: "A new Tragedy, called Eloisa [and Richard Coeur de Lion, both announced on playbill of 16 Dec. were] to have been represented last night; but on account of the illness of Farren [were] obliged to be deferred, and Fontainbleau, with Hob in the Well were announced [in playbill of this present night], but on account of the sudden indisposition of Edwin...both pieces were obliged to be changed to Henry IV, with Barataria" (Public Advertiser, 19 Dec.).
