Weekly Journal or Saturday's Post, 2 Aug.: Some Days ago [23 July] Mr Keene, and eminent Tragedian, and one of the Masters of the Theatre in Lincoln's-Inn-Fields, riding in the Country, his Horse being unruly, threw him, and so bruised him that he died in two Days [on 25 July]. He was decently buried last Wednesday [30 July] in the Vault under St. Clement's Church, where lie the Bodies of Mr Mountfort, Mr Harden, Mr Powell, and others of his Fraternity

[The Westminster Magazine (March) commented: "One of those whims by which the public are continually influenced, has made it the ton to resort to this theatre to hear and see Miss Linley, the syren of Bath. This young lady who is greatly indebted to nature for the eclat with which she is followed, and not a little to the fortuitous concurrence of remarkable incidents in her life has drawn crowded houses incessantly; and this success has been insured by the constant attendance of his Majesty and the Royal family at this theatre."

Event Comment: The Duke's Company. This performance is on the L. C., 5@145, p. 120: Mr Lymberham. See also Nicoll, Restoration Drama, P. 349. There is no indication as to whether this performance was the premiere, but it probably was part of its initial run, which was limited to three days. Langbaine (English Dramatick Poets): In this Play (which I take to be the best Comedy of his) he so much expos'd the keeping part of the Town, that the Play was stopt, when it had but thrice appear'd on the Stage (p. 164). [In the Dedication to the play, Dryden also refers to its being stopped.

Event Comment: At Penkethman's Booth. The Music, Songs, and Dances, are all by the best performers of their kind, whom Mr Penkethman has entertain'd at extraordinary Charge; partly to give a full satisfaction to the Town

Event Comment: At Mr Goff's new Playhouse in Hampstead. This Consort will be perform'd with much better Decorum than before. [In Post Boy, 13-15 Sept., it was announced that the Justices for Middlesex had served an order at Hampstead forbidding the players "to act any more there."

At 7 p.m. Weekly Journal, 2 July: The Pleasure that our English People of Quality took, in being acquainted, that a Gentleman of ours, the curious Mr Abel, hath brought over hither all the most delicate Entertainments...made them last Thursday, for his Encouragement, flock in abundance to his Concert...among whom were the Princess of Wales, who went Incognito, besides several of the Nobility, and other Persons of Quality
